This cinemagraph campaign was launched in 2014 to remind local business owners of the economic impact the global student has on the St. Louis economy and their own business. Inspired by the concept of "owning your own back yard" this animated video tells the tale of this media brand in under 30 seconds as a client facing alternative storytelling platform.

The Starting Line at Washington University in St. Louis
The Starting Line magazine is mailed to all incoming freshman at Washington University in St. Louis. Featuring local restaurants, regional attractions, what to expect and brief introduction to St. Louis for the students four years in college.
Washington University’s first grotesques and bosses were the creations of the Philadelphia architects Walter Cope and John Stewardson – the firm selected in 1899 to design the Danforth Campus. In 1902, Cope explained his use of the Gothic style to the university trustees. “Broadly speaking, the architecture of today may be divided into two styles: the Gothic and the Classic…. To the beholder the Classic says this is the sum — here is perfection — do not aspire further. The Gothic says to him: reach higher — spread outward and upward — there are no limitations.” Source:
The original mascot of the Student Life Media brand in 1878 was a gargoyle seen in this stationary design. The "odd-looking creations and shapes that perch on cornices, crouch above portals and glare from the darkened recesses of the university’s Gothic archways." This original image was printed on the pages of masthead until the late 1930's where he disappeared in print to keep up with the speed of typesetting demand.
Inspired by the component to reach higher, we wanted this gargoyle to represent the gratitude we have for our advertising clients who continue to support the work of student journalism. The Gargoyle Gratitude Campaign kicked off in 2016 and can be seen in offices all around the Danforth and Medical School Campuses.

Student Life staffers received several awards in the Newspaper Division 1 category in 2016, which includes the University of Missouri - Columbia, Missouri State, and Saint Louis University in addition to several prestigious institutions.
In 2016 special newsroom content was published to supplement the Presidential Debate featuring Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump live at Washington University's Sumner Recreation Complex. I formed a partnership with the Loop Special Business District to subsidize the pages while promoting the retail assortment of politically charged prizes in anticipation for this global event. From dorm room inserts, to online, tablet, mobile, banners and posters, this campaign was designed to attract global journalists to the neighboring community.
